A provider of outreach and connectivity for socioeconomic services – www.IStartOnMonday.com
The City of Los Angeles Community Development Department Youth Opportunity Movement – Boyle Heights Technology Youth Center accomplished an incredible P.O.W.E.R. Collaborative Network (PCN) meeting for March 2011. The City of Los Angeles is essential to developing positive outcomes for all socioeconomic endeavors throughout the region. This meeting worked well to reinforce the growth of connectivity between agencies delivering human services. For that reason, we especially want to thank long-time PCN members MaryD Miller and Andrea Angulo, for ensuring the marvelous hospitality and coordination of the meeting.
Ozzie Lopez, Executive Director, Youth Opportunity Movement Boyle Heights, Boyle Heights Technology Youth Center opened the meeting with how well the center is doing with helping low- to moderate-income individuals gain positive employment and training. This center is one of the OneSource Centers in the City of Los Angeles, designed to connect youth to the workforce by preparing young people for a career. The eligible youth receive training and skills development, to create opportunities that assists youth in reaching their goals. Mr. Lopez’s email and office contact information is ozzie.lopez@lacity.org and (323) 526-5800, respectively.
Olivia E. Mitchell, Director, Research, Legislative & Evaluation Planning
Community Resources & Services shared a wide range of activity provided by the City of Los Angeles including medical emergency and youth leadership services. Ms. Mitchell was extremely motivating to the PCN members to increase the activity for helping others, as she elevated the understanding that the divider between most client interfaces is severe depression and success. www.cdd.lacity.org
Jorge Guzman, Business Development Manager, City of Los Angeles Economic Development Division shared central information for businesses to take advantage of the State Enterprise Zone program. There are built-in incentives to assist depressed areas of the City with economic development and job creation to stimulate the economy and assist people with barriers to employment in order to retain permanent, full-time jobs. The state offers incentives such as hiring credits, sales & use tax credits, expense and interest deductions, and the City offers local incentives such as, utility rate discount, sewer facility hookup payment plans, Work Opportunity Tax Credit, and reduced parking requirements. The Los Angeles State Enterprise Zone is valid through October 15, 2021 and the east Los Angeles State Enterprise Zone designation is valid through January 11, 2023. The Internet web site www.IStartOnMonday.com has become an outstanding part of civic reach by constantly identifying and sharing employment and training opportunities everyday! The web site receives its listings from a ten-year old network of social service providers, who continually distribute positive employment, training classes, job fairs and variety of essential resources. Although, the majority of opportunities target low- to moderate-income individuals, significant varieties of degreed positions are also included.
